Civil-Military Cooperation in Support of Future Generations: NATO MILMED COE Collaboration with the Hungarian Scout Association

In July 2025, the NATO MILMED COE supported a valuable community initiative by providing professional assistance in the form of medical education and practical training during a major summer camp organised by the Hungarian Scout Association’s 8th Scout District.

The aim of the scout camp was to educate young people to become responsible members of society, to foster camaraderie, and to develop problem-solving skills. In alignment with this mission, the Hungarian Scout Association requested the support of NATO MILMED COE in strengthening the camp’s healthcare-focused training programme. Responding to this request, First Lieutenant Attila Kecskés, member of the NATO MILMED COE Training Branch, and Sergeant Péter Miklósi, a non-commissioned officer serving in a healthcare position within the Hungarian Defence Forces and a key member of the Hungarian Scout Association, jointly delivered educational sessions and demonstrations using medical simulation equipment and training materials.

Through the use of simulation tools, live demonstrations, and interactive activities, participants were introduced to the world of military healthcare and emergency first aid. These engagements significantly enriched the young participants’ medical knowledge and awareness.

Camp Commander József Tari emphasised that the expertise and equipment provided by NATO MILMED COE elevated the quality of the camp’s health education programme to a new level. “It was deeply inspiring for the children to learn directly from soldiers who are engaged in real-life lifesaving missions. This experience left a lasting impression and set an exemplary standard for them,” he said, expressing his sincere appreciation for the collaboration.

This event serves as a compelling example of effective civil–military cooperation in pursuit of shared goals such as the education, preparedness, and health consciousness of future generations. NATO MILMED COE places strong emphasis on supporting civil–military relations and on promoting healthcare education and simulation-based training, especially among younger audiences.

In line with its mission as outlined, NATO MILMED COE remains committed to contributing to the health preparedness of society at large, be it through international crisis response or by supporting domestic youth programmes.
