COE Directors' Conference in Budapest 2017

On 25th-28th September 2017 the COE Directors' Conference was held in Budapest, Hungary in the Hungarian Defence Forces Cultural Centre. In this year Colonel Dr. László Fazekas, director of the MILMED COE chaired the conference.

47th NATO COMEDS Plenary

The 47th Committee of Chiefs of Military Medical Services in NATO (NATO COMEDS) Plenary was held on 29 May – 1 June 2017 in Washington DC, USA. The meeting was attended by the Director of MILMED COE, Colonel Dr. László Fazekas who briefed the Plenary about the Centre's main activities, projects and achievements. The COMEDS Chairmain, Major General Jean-Robert Bernier (CAN) was very much impressed by MILMED COE's hard work and dedication and also appreciated the professionalism of the team.

4th DHS Course - Level 1 in Marseille, 29 May-02 June 2017

For the fourth consecutive year, the Budapest-based NATO MILMED COE in cooperation with the French Forces Epidemiology and Public Health Centre (CESPA) in Marseille, proposes a course dedicated to medical personnel: the NATO Deployment Health Surveillance Course - Level 1. As in previous years, this course aims to enhance NATO force protection skills against the threat of infectious diseases and bioterrorist attacks.

This year, 18 physicians, nurses and senior NCO`s from 14 nations (Armenia, Belgium, Germany, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Norway, Pakistan, Romania, Republic of Macedonia, Tunisia and the United States) attended the course. They acquired necessary knowledge to wider understand the importance of health surveillance in NATO operations as part of military medical support and to become active actor in its implementation and development.

MEDEVAL of the Norwegian Frigate

On 15 May 2017, the first maritime Medical Evaluation (MEDEVAL) was conducted aboard the Royal Norwegian Navy's Frigate, KNM OTTO SVERDRUP. The team consisted of (names listed Left to Right on the picture): Lt. Cdr Paal Margetts, NOR Navy (observer); Capt Jason Mommaerts, US Air Force; CAPT Kimberly Ferland, US Navy/MILMED COE and Major Håkon Lund, NOR AFJMS.

The MILMED COE's Department Head, CAPT (N) Kimberly Ferland (USA) was the Lead Evaluator.
