Emergency Management of Battlefield Injuries (EMBI) Course (COE-MED-M4-001)

Aim:

To provide skills needed to effectively manage emergency diagnosis and treatment of battlefield injuries.

Target Population:

Medical doctors, specialists and registered nurses whose are planned to work in multinational medical environment in NATO/UN/EU missions.

Pre-requisites:

• Language proficiency: English according to STANAG 6001 3.2.3.2 (listening/speaking/reading/writing)

• Other pre-requisites: Medical background

  • Surgical training in HDF Military Hospital - LTC Sándor Pellek MD (HUN): 

    • Surgical Invasive Clinical Techniques: Application of external fixation on limbs (upper, lower); Chest drainage–chest tube insertion; Anterolateral thoracotomy; Clamp shell thoracotomy; Pericardiocenthesis; Needle chest decompression; Vein preparation; Craniotomy 

    • Anaesthesiological Invasive Clinical Techniques: Central vein access (vena subclavia, vena femoralis); Intraosseal line access (sternal, malleoral, tibial); needle and scalpel cricothyroidotomy; percutaneous tracheostomy

Learning Objectives:

• LO1 be able to identify the nature and severity of injury

• LO2 be able to demonstrate the use of various airway and oxygen adjuncts

• LO3 be able to identify methods for airway control and ventilation

• LO4 be familiar with surgical intervention from operational area to rehabilitation
